Unhoused Families

There are nearly 400 unhoused households in the DMV, made up by around 1,200 unhoused adults and children. Poor, vulnerable families can be made homeless by sudden disruptions of income like a lost job or a surprise expense. However, a majority of unhoused households are the result of domestic violence. 86% of unhoused adults in households reported that domestic violence was the cause of their homelessness.

At the Brooks, a short-term family housing facility operated by Friendship Place, families experiencing homelessness have access to personalized case management and amenities that help them quickly and permanently transition into stable housing. The six-story building’s amenities, like a computer lab, play areas, and a lounge for homework, provide critical support at-risk children.
