Donations benefit Bread for the City, Friendship Place, and Miriam’s Kitchen
By WashPostPR
Today, The Washington Post kicks off its annual Helping Hand holiday giving campaign. Between November 14, 2022 and January 6, 2023, The Post spotlights three charitable organizations dedicated to alleviating homelessness and hunger in the Washington, D.C. area, facilitating direct donations from readers to these nonprofits. In conjunction with the campaign, local columnist John Kelly will reintroduce his seasonal series showcasing the work of the campaign’s beneficiaries and individuals whose lives they have impacted.
The organizations are:
· Bread for the City, providing food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services to reduce the burden of poverty.
· Friendship Place, empowering individuals to rebuild their lives, find homes, get jobs, and reconnect with friends, family, and the community, permanently.
· Miriam’s Kitchen, engaging its guests with healthy, made-from-scratch meals and connecting them with personalized social services that helps them increase their income, improve their health, and obtain a safe, permanent home.
This is the second year Helping Hand has supported these organizations. Last year’s efforts drove over $400K directly to these worthy causes. Since 2014, The Washington Post’s Helping Hand has facilitated over $1.8M directly to human service nonprofit organizations in the Washington, D.C. region through insightful narratives about those in need and the programs that assist them. The Post selects a new set of three beneficiaries every three years.
