The Brooks Family Housing Facility at Six Months
The Brooks Short-Term Family Housing Facility is located in Washington, DC’s Ward-3 and serves families experiencing homelessness. In this video, Friendship Place’s Director of the Brooks Catherine Mitchell reflects on the facility and program six months after its opening. She also discusses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on her staff and the new residents.
Friendship Place was selected by the administration of DC Mayor Muriel Bowser to operate the Brooks in 2019 and opened the doors to families in early 2020. The Brooks Short-Term Family Housing Facility is part of Mayor Bowser’s Homeward DC strategy to end homelessness in DC. Under the vision, families are placed in small, care-conducive environments where they can quickly begin the process of finding housing and gaining the resources needed to heal and rebuild.
