Standing Firm: Friendship Place’s Commitment to LGBTQIA+ Inclusion and DEI

Recent shifts in federal political leadership have led to the discontinuation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives across various U.S. government departments. In response, many private companies have also scaled back their DEI efforts. However, at Friendship Place, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace—one that champions the rights and dignity of all, particularly those in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are more than buzzwords; they are fundamental principles that drive our mission to end homelessness and create lasting change. We understand that individuals facing homelessness come from all walks of life, and marginalized groups—including LGBTQIA+ individuals—are disproportionately affected. A commitment to DEI ensures that our programs and services are welcoming, affirming, and effective for everyone who seeks our help.

The LGBTQ+ Work Group at Friendship Place is dedicated to ensuring that LGBTQIA+ voices are heard and represented in every aspect of our work. We recognize that diversity within our staff enriches our organization, strengthens our ability to serve, and sets an example for other organizations navigating these challenging times. By fostering an inclusive workplace, we cultivate a culture of belonging that directly enhances the support we provide to the communities we serve.

Friendship Place will continue to lead by example, demonstrating the undeniable benefits of a diverse workforce and an inclusive approach to service. Our commitment to DEI is unwavering, not because it is mandated, but because it is the right thing to do. We believe that inclusivity strengthens our mission, deepens our impact, and upholds the dignity of every individual—regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or background.

As we move forward, we encourage others—organizations, businesses, and individuals alike—to stand with us in reaffirming their commitment to DEI. Together, we can create a future where all people, regardless of their identities, are valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.

The work continues, and so does our resolve
