Friendship Walks 2014
After nearly a year of planning and dreaming of a signature event on the National Mall, Friendship Walks: A Walk to End Homelessness, finally became a reality this past Sunday, November 2. According to park police, we had more than 400 people in attendance. Thank you to our event sponsors AT&T, Clark Construction, Lockheed Martin, TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, Federal Title Company, FVC Bank, J Hodges and Associates, Binary Group and Rhythmaya Dance.
DJ EZ STREET of WKYS kicked off the event, with lively music, high energy and a quality stretch session lead by AimHire Employment Services Specialist, Bianca Palmisano. He also allowed the younger audience a chance to try their hands at his equipment.
Members of the Washington, DC chapter of the Former NFL Players Association came to sign autographs and take pictures with guests.
Executive Director, Jean-Michel Giraud and Board Co-President David DeSantis, welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming out.
Community Engagement Coordinator, Alan Banks, shared both, his experience receiving services from Friendship Place and his commitment to paying it forward and challenged all to continue to do the same.
Fifteen members of the local youth group, Distinguished Gentlemen, served as human course markers, guiding the group and cheering on walkers as they passed by.
Five members of the George Washington University softball team lead the way around the Mall with Friendship Place signs.
All of us at Friendship Place want to thank everyone who donated, walked, registered or supported the event in any way. We hope to build upon this success for years to come.
We would also like to give a huge thank you, to Development Associate, Zachary Tobler who spent countless months and hours preparing for the incredible event.
If you missed the walk or still want to contribute, we are still accepting donations on the Friendship Walks registration site until November 29. Thank you again to everyone involved, we will see you next year!
