Meet Phillip Mayrant

Phillip Mayrant was born and raised in Washington, DC. Although he had a housing voucher, for 8 years Mr. Mayrant experienced maintenance issues in his apartment. Eventually, his apartment became uninhabitable, and he had to move.

Mr. Mayrant was awarded a new voucher. However, his challenging times persisted. Due to medical conditions that caused him to be hospitalized, that voucher expired. Struggling to stay somewhere safe, Mr. Mayrant couch-surfed, moving from homes of his friends and his adult children, ending up with his daughter.

Mr. Mayrant’s health worsened. He was forced to undergo amputation of his leg below the knee and worse, broke his arm falling down steps.

Fortunately, Mr. Mayrant was able to turn to Friendship Place. We helped him get another voucher, and in June of this year he was able to lease his own unit! Today, Mr. Mayrant is completely pleased with his new unit, and reports feeling at home and has found some peace, thanks to Friendship Place!
